Having trouble finding learning experiences to teach medial sounds? Need more teaching resources for your phonics program? It’s important that children learn sounds through games as they tend to be more engaging and fun. Children learn naturally through play. When teaching reading and spelling it is known that you start with initial or beginning sounds. However, it is important to note that you then teach final sounds (see final sounds bingo) the medial sounds. The reason for this, is that initial and final sounds are more dominant when sounding out and also reading. So this idea looks at simple 3 letter words called CVC’ words, which mean consonant, vowel, consonant such as cat, bin, fit, lot etc. In this game there is 3 strips for each medial sound or vowels a, e, i, o and u with 3 boxes in each strip. Children sort through 45 small cards to find pictures (with word) that have the same medial sounds (see picture). This also coincides with word families as many CVC words are, such as cat, mat, sat etc or even vowels. This game comes as 10 A4 pages on CD, as a PDF files ready for you to save and print. |
